When I am sleeping, I occasionally get a shock on my tongue

Customer Question

When I am sleeping, I occasionally get a shock on my tongue that awakens me. At times, it is very sharp and feels like my tongue has been touched by a live electrical wire. This leaves my tongue sore for several days. This has been going on for several years. My doctor has no idea what would cause this. I wonder what would happen if the "charge" did not exit through my tongue. Can you enlighten me on what causes this?
