I just developed significant swelling of my feet and ankles.

Customer Question

I just developed significant swelling of my feet and ankles. Also tiny red dots come with the swelling. Nothing else new or changed. Have pain bad on left side hip radiating to knee and shin. Doc diagnosed it as sciatica thus Pt. forgot to tell her about feet swelling... Sit at a desk all day, up & down periodically. Any thoughts?

Hi there.
Thank you for your question.
I will be helping you out with your queries.
The swelling of the feet and ankles that you are having is called as peripheral edema.
This can have many causes such as:
1. Heart disease
2. Kidney disease
3. Liver disease
4. Varicose veins or swollen incompetent veins of the legs
I would recommend that be evaluated for this swelling that you have and have all these causes considered and ruled out.
You will most likely require a water pill (a pill that increases your urination and thus removes extra water from your body and reduces the swelling).
