Hi Karen. I just typed out an answer, and it was erased. so I am starting over....
I have the luxury of the er visit, so the ekg clears him and I imagine that all his vitals like blood pressure ,, heart rate, all suggested an anxiety attack.
Certainly that would also be my first choice, based on the new job and presentation and the obvious anxiety that he expressed to you. People with epilepsy have anxiety attacks as well. I do not think this is consistent with tegretol toxicity , but if they did check a level at the er, it should be between 5 and 12
I would also ask what his last seizure 15 years ago was like, does he have any history of temporal lobe epilepsy with staring spells, automatisms, feeling out of body experiences, ,etc. that is because feelings of fear or panic can be temporal lobe auras so I would in that case not change anything, not increase his meds, but ask for an eeg with comparison to a previous study if possible.
not much else to add here, please get back to me with questions. Dr Frank T.

Anxiety attacks come and go? He was out of town when this happened yesterday. He said he was going to Monday call for an appointment with his nero.Dr. A. Melcher in Metairie, La. The dr. in the er told him his ekg was fine, and he blood work was normal. I don't know what types of blood work they ran. 15 years ago he had simple partial I think... had mri and cat scan. Never had a sei. since. Had 2 aura's I know of. Dr. Melcher said he had a freckle on the front lobe, that caused electrial mischief.
did you reply if anxiety attacks come and go....the er gave him a valium. and a rx for them

Hi Anxiety attacks do come and go. We call them panic attacks. He should see his neurologist when he returns, but this is not a seizure as you stated. Dr Frank T.
