I have found out I have a narrowing of the disks in my neck

Customer Question

I have found out I have a narrowing of the disks in my neck (right side in particular) and some spurring as well. It has been suggested that I have a cortisone injection from a pain specialist. I am not in pain. I have a sharp electrical "pain" that occurs with a particular twisting motion or movement. Not often but enough to be alarming. Would it be best to have a neurologist see my xrays or should I investigate further before having a needle stuck in my neck? I am 58 years old and I understand cortisone eventually stops working.

DrBrain : Hello welcome to just answer.
DrBrain : My views expressed are for educational purposes only.
DrBrain : Based on your description the narrowing of the disc can cause the compression of the nerve which in certain mention and position can give you electric shock like pain. Typically first the pain meds are prescribed to ease the symptoms and if that fails injection would be a second option. So taking second opinion is upto you. Steroid shots would also ease the pain by reducing the inflammation. However seeing a neurologist might help you.
Customer :

So I guess what I am asking is are there any other options besides medication or shots? like chiropractic adjustments or massage or acupuncture?

DrBrain : Massage is not a good idea as it would cause muscle spasms. A chirpractor might be able to help you by having adjustments.
DrBrain : Accupuncture may help too.
