I've inherited a Cable Nelson upright piano. I know that the company was under this name from 1905 until the 20's. It's in fairly good condition but needs to be stripped to original wood. What is the value?
Already Tried: Online search for other pianos. Only found the info. that I shared with you about the company.
Can you give me the serial number from the inside and the height of the piano?
Sorry piano is not at my home. The piano is 54 inches tall and the number inside is 88618.
Thanks for the information! The serial number dates this piano to 1915. Unfortunately old upright pianos, even those of the highest quality, are of little value today. Pianos depreciate with age as the internal parts wear and break. They aren't given a separate "antique" value simply for being old. In the condition you describe and based on its age and maker your 1915 Cable Nelson upright would be valued at between $100-$300 in a private sale. I found your estimate disappointingly low. I have since found other, similar pianos on the internet which are selling for around $450- $500. I did find out that the ivory keys were replaced (some time ago). But as I said the piano does need to be stripped down to the original wood (and I know this would make a value difference).
I understand, and unfortunately I have to deliver disappointing news quite often here, but I would rather give you correct news than try to inflate the value which does you a disservice. Remember, there is a difference between selling and sold--one can ask whatever price they want but it won't always sell for that price. Since the keys were replaced I would feel comfortable adding a couple of hundred dollars to the valuation as an improvement in condition, but the overall old age and condition are what keep the value low. I wish you the best! Please remember to complete the feedback portion below or press the "accept" button--whichever is offered or I do not get credit here.
