I have a 1980 baby grand 5' 3" Horugel. It is is excellent condition. I'm curious to know the value of the piano. Thank you very much!
Already Tried: This is my first attempt at getting an appraisal for this piano.
Hi, thanks for your question!Horugel was originally a German made piano but the name was sold to Samick (Korea) who made pianos under the Horugel name in the 70's and 80's. The quality level of these pianos was pretty low unfortunately which translates to a low price currently. Based on the age, maker and your description of condition as well as knowledge of manufacturing quality your 1980 Horugel (Samick) would be valued at approximately $1,400-$2,000 in a private sale. I'm surprised that you did not want any additional information on the piano. It has rarely been played and mostly just sat in the living room until the last 6 months, and since then only sporadically played, it was recently tuned and sounds great. It is spotlessly clean shiny black ebony and has no scratches or nicks. Does any of that count for anything?
Thanks for your reply! I wish I could give you better news but in this case, despite condition, the quality of the piano is going to be the biggest factor which is why it is priced so low. Even with minimal playing the 32 years of age still does equal a good amount of depreciation. These two things are the main reasons I gave the price I did. While waiting for your answer, I measured my piano and find that it is a "Living Room Grand" 5'10 or 11" long, 48" wide and 42" high. I imagine from your prior answers that this will make very little difference if any.
Size definitely makes a difference in price since larger pianos have longer strings and a fuller sound. Based on that improved size I would change the value to approximately $2,000-$2,600. It sounds like you are pretty disappointed and I can understand that! I wish I had better news but hope I have been helpful and explained my reasoning. Best wishes!
