There are 2 antique piano's for sale on Craigs list in my area - assuming both are in decent condition (i'm going to look at them later) which would be the better piano to buy: 1. Cable Nelson baby grand piano built in 1929 (listed for $800)2. AB Chase upright piano built in 1920 (listed for $200.) Or is a piano this old not worth the hassle?
Hi, thanks for your question!Generally older pianos are going to be in fair condition at best, with the possibility of them being in poor condition. I am speaking of the internal action, not the outside appearance, which is what many people consider to be a good indicator of the piano's condition. Because they are so old you're taking a chance on the internal condition if you don't have it inspected before purchase. A grand will be better than an upright and will usually be more stable and easier to work on for a technician. These prices sound right for the kinds of pianos they are. Both companies were middle of the road in regards XX XXXXXXX--XXXXXXX exceptional nor terrible.
