I had to replace the final drive belt when I put starte gear

I had to replace the final drive belt when I put starte gear back in its an 02 road king classic lined the washer back with the Grove and tightened the long little bolt that goes in the center tightened it and bent the tab over hit the starter button and it just backs the long bolt out of the center what did I do wrong

which way is the starter pinion spinning?

did you disconnect battery cables when you replaced the belt?

Clock wise and no I did not disconnect the battery my ground goes to the starter bracket I disconnected that everyone I've talked to said thay have never had to deal with anything like it

you should never remove the primary drive without first disconnecting the battery cables. at least the Negative cable.

I have only seen the bolt back out when the battery is connected to the starter backwards.

since the pinion should turn CW, I see no problem.
