I have a 2000 roadking and have no spark, It is carbureted and I have new wiring harness, ecm and coil. I have power to the coil as well but no spark

what ignition module did you install?

tell me everything you can.

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
stock Harley module 32478-99C, I removed cam shaft position sensor and all the things that were related to the MM FI. I followed the wiring diagram in the service manual and its all correct to the connectors for the module
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I had a bad connection on the wires that go from the ignition module to the coil found that with the ohm meter had a resistance of 2.47 and the resistance is now is 1.2. power to the coil from the wire that comes from the module. Replaced the coil with new one and still no spark so I am baffled
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I haven't checked the crank position sensor yet was going to do that in the morning. I read that might be related so I figured couldn't hurt to test it.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
the kill switch functions properly, doesn't allow for it to be started unless it's on. the engine light doesn't come on until you turn it in position. I don't have a tach so nothing to measure there. I do have the data link plug set up so I was going to follow procedure in book to pull a code if there are any.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
are you still there?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
is there a way to test the module without the scanalizer? no one has one anywhere?
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

there is no way to test the module with a crank sensor.

perform the crank sensor check and let me know what you find.

ensure you have battery voltage on the coil terminal with the white/black wire.

the most common cause of no spark is inadequate battery voltage or capacity. let m know if you need help determining your battery condition.

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
battery is new gel battery fully charged, what should I be getting for voltage out of the plug? I'll do the check first thing in the morning and are you available tomorrow?
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

I have only bad experiences with gel batteries.

your bike was designed to use a lead acid battery.

what you do with that information is up to you.

a 100% fully charged battery reads 12.7 vdc.

you should read battery voltage on the pin at the coil where the white/black wire connects.

its agm not gel my bad. calling it a night Im going to test the sensor and perform a couple of test the service manual says to do to test
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

let me know what you find.

I had wires crossed in crank position website plug
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Plenty of spark now
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

Glad I could help.

is the engine running or not?

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Was curious what you know about mikuni hsr42. Using hard time getting started
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Doesn't seem like getting enough fuel. Got plenty of spark. Have 160psi and holds there on both cylinders
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Is s new carb factory setting. Everything thing is stock except for the cams which are S&S 510g
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Do you have time tomorrow morning in est in NH
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

you can't just install a carburetor.

to do that, you need to remove all the fuel injection engine management components and replace them with a carburetor and a new ignition module.

that said, the Mikuni is a very good carburetor. so is the stock HD Keihin CV and the S&S Super E.

I am on the west coast. I'll have some time at work tomorrow to get back to you. I don't do phone calls.

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
It's all switched. I have the 2 connection stock ecm for carb. Ask fi components removed
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
All fi
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

you removed the fuel pump/filer/regulator and installed carb fuel line bungs in the fuel tank?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Yep
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Pingel high flow
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

what kind of fuel flow do you get to the carb?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I did compression check have 160psi both constant and holds
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Rechecked timing ask good. I did have pushrods reversed fixed that put back together. The compression reading is after fixing pushrods
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

again, what kind of fuel flow do you have to the carburetor?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Pingel , high flow
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Gravity feed
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Let's connect tomorrow exhausted going to bed
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

you said you don't think you're getting fuel.

DO YOU HAVE FUEL FLOW TO THE CARBURETOR?

if you do......is it a nice solid stream or otherwise?

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
have fuel to carb nice flow.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
When I pull plugs dry
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

- is there fuel in the float bowl?

- when you twist the throttle, does fuel squirt out the accelerator pump nozzle?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I get popping through exhaust like age wants to start but not enough to fully run her
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

your engine needs ONLY 3 things to start and run:

- spark (timed ignition)

- fuel (correct air/fuel mixture)

- compression.

you need to find the one you do NOT have and correct it.

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Git that. Just blew another head gasket
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

what?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Rear head gasket
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Blew and gas was coming out between head and cylinder
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

I would replace both head gaskets.

I prefer COMETIC.

Steve

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
This is the 4th time
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
In putting old jugs back on going to have others put on dial indicator to seed what scoop is
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Rear keeps blowing in same spot
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Front only twice found torque had to be done twice because #1 bolt would be looser than rest
Expert:  Steve replied 4 months ago.

- you CANNOT check torque on EVO heads. they are torque and forget. if you suspect a loose head bolt, you MUST loosen ALL 4 head bolts and start over. if a particular bolt keeps coming loose, check the deck where it screws into the crankcase for cracks or to see if it's pulling threads. they just don't loosen up, there has to be a reason.

- you should have a machinist inspect the mating surface both heads and cylinders for anomalies. the mating surfaces may need to be machined.

- use COMETIC gaskets.
