I am trying to hook up my ATV battery and when I touch the leads (positive is already attached), I get a... squealing sound. Is this just a warning noise? It still makes the noise if the key is inserted or turned on or not.

Initially, bear with us; re-confirm and post back with the make & model number of the ATV.

Still, it would almost always be a warning indicator possibly for:

  • • security/thief deterrent;
  • • reverse gear;
  • • lights on ignition off;
  • • engine management in lock down mode.

I ended up finishing the battery installation and ignoring the noise. Once installed and the machine turned on it went away. For a while as soon as I turned the key off, the noise came back, but I let it idle for some time then took it for a drive, and all seems fine now. I probably should just order the mechanics manual. The owner manual is pretty pathetic.
