Customer Question

I am trying to hook up my ATV battery and when I touch the leads (positive is already attached), I get a... squealing sound. Is this just a warning noise? It still makes the noise if the key is inserted or turned on or not.

Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...

Initially, bear with us; re-confirm and post back with the make & model number of the ATV.

Still, it would almost always be a warning indicator possibly for:

  • • security/thief deterrent;
  • • reverse gear;
  • • lights on ignition off;
  • • engine management in lock down mode.

I ended up finishing the battery installation and ignoring the noise. Once installed and the machine turned on it went away. For a while as soon as I turned the key off, the noise came back, but I let it idle for some time then took it for a drive, and all seems fine now. I probably should just order the mechanics manual. The owner manual is pretty pathetic.
