How do I access the four wires at the ignition switch

Well you haven't provided too much info here like bike, year, etc, but in general from the bottom of the switch there is a metal brace securing the wire harness, once you open that up to remove the wire there are two/three tabs that you'll need to spread apart enough to slide the base apart from the body.
