I have a crack in the primary case on my 1971harley Davidson ironhead spotter and would like to know the best way to go about fixing the crack

Hello , Well you should take it to a Machine Shop......As they have all the Tools & Knowledge to do a Great Job , that would hold Up......Thanks Joey

there are a few possible fixes for this.

- you can replace the crankcase. aftermarket cases are available.

- you can weld (or have someone weld) the area of the crack with a heliarc welder.

- the first thing I would try is JB WELD. grind the area of the crack to open it up a bit and apply JB WELD per the instructions.

JB Weld is a Band-aid like Fools Gold just a Temp....Fix for a Short Time at Best...................

not necessarily. JB WELD may resolve the issue. there is no pressure in the primary.

but if it does not, you are not out anything by trying it first.
