I have a 02 FLHT with a rebuild 103 motor. On my return trip

Customer Question

I have a 02 FLHT with a rebuild 103 motor. On my return trip home from Sturgis the bike just quit. After getting it too a mechanic I was told that the rear cylinder had no compression. Its been 4 yrs and 25,000 miles after the rebuild. There was pressure release valves added on the rebuild which you press down on them before starting. What would cause this type of engine failure (no compression in rear cylinder).

the only possible causes of loss of compression on only 1 cylinder are:

- faulty compression release.

- stuck open valve(s).

- fault with rings (broken or worn.

a "leak down test" can be used to determine which of these is the cause.
