Customer Question

2001 Vulcan 1500N FI.
The engine overheated and lost power.
After cooling the engine runs fine except there is loud knocking from the rear cylinder left side. this is not moving just idling. It is not constant knocking but skips a few beats. Does not change if the clutch is in.

Based on the symptom that you describe there are two likely possibilities.
First the piston seized on the cylinder walls and that is the source of the noise.
Second is the wrist pin seized on the small end of the rod and that is the source of the noise.
In either case the engine will have to be removed from the frame and disassembled to make any kind of judgment as to the cause of the problem and what it would cost to repair it.
