It appears I am not alone, having trouble with the fuel system on a 2005 Rhino, 660. Started backfiring real bad, starving for fuel, took it to mechanic, $1200.00 later havesimilar problems. He put 3 fuel pumps on it, cleaned the carb, now have electric pump. Was running pretty good until yesterday. Ran it in the Louisiana heat we call, hell, temp light came on, problem started all over again. Would start and run at idle, could not give fuel it would die out. Any suggestions?
I have seen two rhinos do this the igniter or CDI box is failing. replace with a new unit fixed the issue on both of them. do you have access to a know good cdi unit to use as a test unit?
Jeff, internet posts talk a lot about the fuel pump, can I have multiple problems?
the fuel pumps get weak and will not prime if the unit sets for a period of time. i can prime them by blowing in to the vent hose and the unit will run good then until it sets for a period of time. you have a electric pump on the unit now so that is not a issue for you any more.
Yamaha has issue on some units with the ignition pick up coil failing when it gets hot.
Ok, now I'm concerned about why the temp got so high, my temp light actually came on. Should I first be concerned about the temp light, water pump, etc.? Then I can have him check the CDI.
their is no checking the CDUI other than replacing it with a know good unit.
check the coolant level, if that is ok. the look in to the radiator to see if it is flowing when the unit is running.
