Is there a reason why spark units go bad so often on Honda Magnas (1982 Vf750C). Can the cause be fixed? Are there companys that repair spark units? I have the above mentioned model and everything is perfect, but the spark units go out regularely. Thanks! Kim

The early 80s was when electronic ignitions were first commercially used on bikesThese CDIs are not as robust as modern ones & the C-mos chips used can blow with just a mild static electric shock
Excessive heat &/or vibration are also causes for early CDIs to go wrong
There are companies who repair CDI & others which makemade CDI for certain older bikes

Thank you for your reply. Can you name companys that repair spark boxes and/or that build new sparkboxes for my model (1982 Honda Magna VF750 C)? Do you know which modern reliable ignition system would fit my model and where I could get it? What specifications would I have to look for on my bike and on the modern ignition system, which are relavant for determining whether they will fit together and not hurt my bike? It may be ultimately cheaper to put a modern, reliable ignitions system on my bike than to buy expensive used spark boxes over and over again. Thank you! Kim
HiI would suggest that you fit one that is recommended for your bikeHeres a place in UK that I can personally WestCountryWindings "We supply pattern CDIs, HT coils and regulators we can usually match your unit with a suitable replacement."These guys can probably uprate your ignition so as to be more reliableI hear that Dynatek & Moose ignition systems are good but I dont know if they do your modelLet me know if you find out before I do
