Customer Question

Having starter problems. Rebuilt old w/ new starter clutch drive, installed 66 tooth starter ring & 9 tooth starter pinion gear. Starter turns motor occasionally, but not firing. Stock battery is fully charged.

did you perform any maintenance or add any accessories before this started?
tell me everything you can since the starter worked fine and now.

Starter was not working, at all, before this. Now, just won't keep turning the motor nor fire up. No new added accessories. Added all new fluids, crank, tranny, & primary. Checked fuses, spark plugs, etc. Bike was serviced just 3000 miles ago.

Key OFF?
Key ON?
while cranking starter?

I do not have a volt meter.

your starter used to work. they all work off the showroom floor. something has changed to cause you starting difficulty. since you stated nothing was done to the engine, I must assume it is stock. in that case, the only possible causes of starter problems like you describe is a bad starter, bad battery or bad battery cables.
