i have aXXXXXbob with 2 month old harley battery started ok until last week went for 30min ride stopped bike for 1hour bike would turnover but not start tried 2minutes later positive poll block attachment ie where wire screws in melted and smoked until it reached positive poll even after turning ignition off only wiring burnt was positive lead near block .bike has only done 1400km since new . i bouht it 3months ago with 850km from original owner . any ideas would be appreciated

why was the battery 2 months old?

Steve battery was original from new and needed trical charging to start bike between rides . friends advised me battery life of harley is five to eight years . So changed it for reliability .Having a 1584 motor and harley alarm was worried about battery draining as only riding on weekends. and constantly having to charge . bike has always needed slight throttle to start. it could have been caused by a bad battery, loose battery cables or a problem wit your charging system.
we can check your charging system after you replace the battery AND your battery cables.
with the engine at about 2,000 rpm, the battery voltage should be between 13.5 and 14.5 vdc.
