Hello and welcome to Just Answer,

The shifter on your bike should be mounted to a shaft on the frame. The shifter itself should have a threaded rod attached to it that runs up to a connector that connects to the shifter shaft. That connector has a bolt in the bottom of it that holds it on the shaft. Remove the bolt that holds the connector onto the shaft and the nthe connector will slide off with the threaded rod after you remove the bolt or retaining ring that hold the shifter itself on. You will remove the shifter, connector, and threaded rod as a unit. Once you have it off you will then unthread the rod from the old shifter and then install the new shifter.
