I have a 1990 FRXS that cuts out when I am riding after I turn on the turn lights and I loose a little power when I go from high beam to low beam. The weird thing is it doesn't do it when it is in neutral. Any ideas? Thanks,Clare
Optional Information: Year: 1990 Make (other): harley davidson Model: fxrs Engine: 1340cc Already Tried: Brought it to a mechanic last year and it didn't seem to fix the problem.
Good day and welcome to Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X'X be happy to help you with your problem today. Sounds like you are starting into a charging issue. How old is that battery & do you have a battery charger as well as a multi meter?
The battery is two years old, but had not been used much. We've charged the bike and it rides fine until I put on the turn signals or change the light to high beam. Don't have a multi meter but could probably get one.
Thanks Clare, sorry for the delay. Without a meter you are really left with physical inspections of the bike & I would start at the headlight ground, & headlight plug. If the plug is melted that needs replaced & indicates a potential charging issue. Otherwise you'll need to inspect all connectors, circuit breakers, the stator plug, all grounds, the battery cables & ignition switch wiring for cuts, breaks, pinches, rubs, corrosion or moisture. We need the meter to check the state of the battery & the charging voltage in order to know if we need to look further into the charging system, or take a different approach into the lighting system. Let me know if you get your hands on a meter or if you need other info.
