Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,

On most versions, what is required is to disconnect the black/white wire going to the ignition switch. The only wire needed for the ignition to work is the black / white from the magneto to the ignition coil.

Please postback results or should you need further information.

Good luck and thank you for using JustAnswer.

Appreciate your postback and additional information.

The initial proposed solution is for a non-CDI version. For a CDI versions, the black/white is the engine cutoff; for the engine to run it should not be connected to anything. The other wire of the CDI goes to the ignition coil. The 3 wires from the magneto going to the CDI are for the exciter and the pulser coils with a ground wire. Both of the active wires from the magneto would have pulsating ACvoltage when starting or engine running; 1 would be ~ 0.5VAC (pulser) and the other considerably higher (exciter).
