Turn key..instrument panel..battery is good can jump solenoid

Resolved Question:

have a 2006 Polaris sportsman 500 ho will start after sitting run awhile some times 2 3 minutes
some times 10 minutes then will quit let sit a few minute turn key on can hear it trying to energise instrument panel is digital will come on a few seconds then go off battery is good can jump solenoid will turn over but not start

It sounds like you have a bad instrument panel. Find someone with the same machine and swap instrument panels and see if it still does it. Other wise, i have seen them with broken wires in the wire harness just below the headlight were its ziptied to the steering stem.

so you dont think it is the control module they had a recall on them said the could over heat and cause fire

I've never seen any of the ECMs do this when they were bad. But there is always a first.All the bad ECMs i saw, the unit would not start at all. Not all 06 500s were affected by this recall. Take your vin # XXXXX your Polaris dealer and have them check to see if yours was, and if it was, that the ECM was replaced. If it was affected and not replaced, then they will replace it at no charge as it was a recall.
