Harley Davidson, EVO 1984 FXR,
Can you explain how my starter can stay engaged with the key off? This happened a long time ago and I figured it was the cheap Hitachi starter. I now have an aftermarket "all balls" starter and it happened again. I turned the key ...hit the starter button ....and the starter engaged and would not stop.... turn the key off...still kept running????? any ideas??? had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop.
Your starter relay is stuck, the solenoid is stuck or the button once pushed does not cut power to the relay. I'd change the relay & check the button/wiring to & from it.
