I have an 01 Volusia 800 Suzuki. It has recently sarted overheating and burning oil. The plugs have been relplaced but they still turn white after a short run and there are signs of oil on the plug. The only modifaction I have made is a new K&N filter and I went to Synthetic oil. Now my mechanic says I''ve only got 60% of the compression I should have and I may need new rings. I don''t want to do any major work until I know the source of the overheating. Any suggestions?
Optional Information: 2001 Volusia 800CCAlready Tried: a new air filter
If you have installed the k&n filter & did not make a jet change then it is very possible that you are running the bike to lean, causing it to run hot. That would then cause the ring problem, which will cause the oil burning problem & loss of compression. I would install new spark plugs, increase the main jet size, recheck the oil & water level, then run the machine again & see what it does. Hope this will help, if so please click the green acceept button & then leave positive feedback. If you have any other questions, feel free.
Thanks
