I have a 2004 Pajero turbo diesel 3.2L. On my way home the oil light come on. I was approx 3 klm from home so continued to drive there. Put 3L oil into the car and there is oil on the dipstick but the oil light is still on. Does the car need to be "reset"??

Hi Petrea,

You need to get your car to a workshop asap.

Don't drive it until it gets looked at.

It could be just a oil pressure switch failure, or it could have no oil pressure, which generally ends up being engine failure.

Hence why you should not drive it until it gets inspected.

Hi Gary, when I got home the dipstick was pretty clean. After putting in the oil the dipstick had coverage. In the past the car had 5 'switches' put in for the 4WD and had to be reset. Could it be the same for the oil light too??

Ok, you have put in 3 litres, and the level is correct now.

And the oil pressure lamp is on with the engine running?

Does the engine sound normal, or is it noisy?

the oil light stays on with the engine running. Everything sounds normal.

I would still have the oil pressure checked by a mechanic.

It might be just the switch that has failed.

Can we continue in the morning?

Good night for now.
