Customer Question

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with a 3.0L engine.
I changed the timing belt and I believe that I have the timing 180 degrees out.
I put a long reach compression tester in the #1 plug hole, but am getting no compression. Took the gauge off and put my thumb over the pipe, still nothing.
How can I find the compression stroke without pulling the valve cover?

Hello and welcome! My name is ***** ***** I can assist you with your question. Was the engine running before the timing belt was replaced? Would you like me to send a diagram of the timing marks?

Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.

I found a picture of the timing marks.

Once these marks are lined up correctly, then you are on compression stroke. Everything is lined up to where it needs to be.
