Customer Question

2003 Galant (150K): just had the timing belts, water pump, etc. replaced. The engine seems to run ok, but there is a small amount of blue smoke from the exhaust for about 10 seconds when starting from cold. Could this be due to an incorrectly timed oil pump? What other symptoms would you also expect?

Hi Neel, My name is***** , the timing belt being off wil not cause the smoke, if the timing was off, it would run bad, even a tooth off will cau it to run bad, if it only smokes on cold startb up, first thing in the morning, then this is caused by bad valve guide seals, the oil leaks past them whn sitting over night, and causes the blue smoke first start up, until it buirns off, this is very cmmon with this mileage, to fix this, the valve guide seals will need to be replaced,Tim
