cleaned battery terminals with electric cleaner now speedometer does not work. reset comp. and no luck, speedometer resets but still does not work?

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
You may have quite a few things going on. The issue could be in the instrument cluster itself or it could be a lack of vehicle speed message. If there was no vehicle speed message due to a speed sensor, wiring or ABS module related issue then the ABS and brake lights would also be on. Since you don't mention them being on I'm assuming they are not.
With the key on take a close look at the speedometer needle. When resting is it above or below the stop peg just under 0?
