Mitsubishi: 2004 Mitsubishi eclipse 2.4 overheating. Replaced

Customer Question

2004 Mitsubishi eclipse 2.4 overheating. Replaced thermostat, temperature switch and sensor. The bottom radiator hose is remaining cold and the fans are not kicking on without turning the defroster on, I assume this is maybe because the hot water is not reaching the switch to trigger them.

good afternoon my name is ***** ***** I will assist the thermostat may have been your original failure but from the overheating, you may have a damaged head gasket. cold lower hose, no heat, no fans are common symptoms.you can get a chemical kit at a parts store to check and see if there is hydrocarbons in the cooling system. that is an easy way to check for a head gasket. the other way is a leak down test that air pressure the cylinders one by one looking for pushing coolant out the radiator cap.
