how do you retract the real wheel calipers on a mitsubishi

Customer Question

how do you retract the real wheel calipers on a mitsubishi magna 1990 far enough to get the new pads in place, it wont budge

 



Already Tried:
I have taken off old pads etc. and have tried using a c-clamp and a cube 3/8 generic tool

First off make sure the emergency brake is off or it isn't going anywhere.
Then open the bleeder valve to make it easier.
Then turn and push. If it still wont go it is either seized or you may just need to buy or borrow a proper tool for it. The big auto parts stores have them on their loaner tool programs.

the 3/8 cube I was using does not seem to fit...is there anything I should ask for specifically...the local parts store did not have the exact tool or a loan tool service

Just a standard rear brake caliper tool. Here is what autozones looks like

That is their loaner or its 60.00 to buy.
You could probably use a grinder and modify your cube too. Just grind off the two prongs you dont need.
