Hi,Am I understanding right, that all of the following (radio, dome lights, gauges, warning lights) have to be hit or jarred to make them work?If you were to open a door and slam it real hard, would it have a similar effect on any of the devices that were malfunctioning? Thanks
yes your right. havent tried slaming the doors but, my passengers have..lol.. it doesnt affect any of the devices. the lights that come on when you turn the key to the on position... they all stay on & flicker, then after bout 2mins, they all turn off. somtimes if I hit a bump they come back on then off again.
Thanks. The good news here is that as long as these things are all happening rather in unison, you likely only have a loose connection or two to deal with, it is not likely that you have any major component failure. If the problems are operating completely independent of one another, component failures would be more probable, but lets not get into that until we check out the more likely scenarios.Whenever you can manipulate behavior such as things cutting in and out through jarring motions like hitting bumps, it is indicating that something is loose. While it is possible to have loose internal connections in the radio or cluster, this is NOT likely, particularly on multiple items. Similarly it is possible to just have loose connectors on the back of these devices, however again it is not too likely to occur on multiple items at once.So where that leaves you is with a wiring issue in the dash that is causing things to cut out when bumped... this is the bad news, as it can take quite a bit of work to locate and is not often suited for most do it yourselfers as you can very quickly get in over your head pulling things apart.-However-, we do have on really likely suspect that you can check yourself that may cure all of your issues. On the drivers kick panel area, the area of frame just in front of the drivers door and by your left foot, there is a ground point, ground #10. I strongly suspect that this ground is loose, corroded, or otherwise damaged in the harness. The reason for this suspicion is that the #10 ground controls the radio, the SRS computer, and the ground for the potentiometer.... which powers all of the dash lighting. If this ground were to be loose, corroded, or the wiring to it damaged, it would cause all of your issues.Knowing this, I would first immediately go to ground #10 and inspect the tightness, cleanliness, and integrity of the wiring going to it. If all is well there, it is going to be a long road ahead to find the weak point. At that you would want to turn the car on and the radio up loud, then start working around the harnesses that you can reach moving them about and wiggling connectors to see if the radio cuts out.. when it does, you have the area your damage will be in. Again it can get ugly quick and going much deeper is best left to someone familiar with if not the vehicle specifically, but auto electronics at least. Check that ground out first though, you may get lucky and have that be all it is.I am attaching a picture of the ground location below (#10):Good luck!Doug C41074.8920823727
