New Mitsubishi Pajero Diesel.Flattened the battery watching video. Tried jump starting against another car but nothing but clicking sound. Is there a proper way to do this?
Hello and thank you for choosing just answer.
The way you are trying is the correct way, However since you have a diesel engine it's going to require more power to turn the engine. Depending on the other vehicle that's jump starting your battery, if the other vehicle is a small vehicle with a small battery and small charging system it might not be enough power supply to start your engine.
In your case you have 2 solutions, You could connect the jump leads from the other vehicle, leave the other vehicle running and let your battery charge a little bit from the other vehicle without attempting to start your pajero until the battery regains a little bit of charge, Leave it charging from the other vehicle for about 5 minutes then try to start your Pajero.
The other solution would be just to get a jump start pack which will be a portable heavy duty jump starter. This is going to be a big rechargable battery pack inside a container with two wires coming out of it which has enough power to jump start about any dead battery out there.
Some precautions to take when you jump start your vehicle, DO NOT flip the polarity of the battery, Meaning positive goes to positive and negative goes to negative. MAKE SURE that you connect it right otherwise you will in a world of electrical problems in your Pajero.
Also as soon as your Pajero starts remove the jumper cables from both vehicles without touching any of the cables to the other ones until all connections are removed from both vehicles.
THe battery in your Pajero might be discharged but might still be in good condition, But will need to be recharged. After you have jump started your vehicle ,take it for a long drive, about half an hour then stop by your local mitsubishi dealership or any service station and have them test your battery, if your battery tests out OK then you will not need to replace it.
A dead battery is a battery that does not take charge, but a discharged battery will tend to act like a dead battery but it is chargable and will function normally once charged.
