I need to identify the factory wires on the male end of the upstream o2 sensor connector. The wires that are going to the male end of the connector are Black, White, Red, and Yellow with a red stripe. Need to know what wires are the Heater (2), Signal and Ground. Someone stole our cat and o2 sensor, so I am missing the female end connector and cannot match up the wires correctly to the new sensor. Those wires are White (2) Black and Grey. I have been to several Dealerships that cannot seem to help me. Check engine light is on of course. Thank you
Hello again, I will help you with your question,
What year is your Outlander?
oops I entered that information so many times....Sorry 2003
OK, if you had the connector (you will need one, maybe junkyard) hold it up with the connection end facing you and the lock on top. The top left is the yellow/black with the red to the right of that. The lower left is the black with the white to the right of that.
The signal wire from the O2 sensor allows the sensor to get "refrence" air that it compares to the exhaust stream allowing the sensor to work, if the wire is soldered or electric grease is used in the connector the sensor cannot "breathe" and the readings will be incorrect.
This is why it is best to get a connector and install it by soldering splicing then that leaves the sensor a plug in connection.
If you are going to try to do a direct connection (probably will result in the check engine light being on I need to know the brand (part number would be best) of the sensor you are going to install so I can match the colors for you.
Let me know how I can help you
Thank you
I am installing a universal Bosch 15730 from Auto Zone. It comes with special connectors and I know not to solder as per the online and Instructions that came with it.Forget even finding an Outlander here in AZ (pick a part, etc.) Parts stores, even the dealerships do not carry them (direct connect). They are special order $300.00+....just for that clip. With the above o2 sensor, I am able to connect the wires directly.I know this is confusing.....I don't have the female end that is connected to the o2 sensor. I only have the male end that protrudes from under the vehicle. So as you describe; holding that connector with the cliplock on top, the top left wire is Red, the top right wire is Yellow with Red stripe. The bottom left is White, and bottom right is Black.Hope that clairifys my request better. Thanks Mike
Ok, then connect one of the white to the yellow/red, the other white to the red, the black to the grey of the sensor and the white to the black of the sensor.
Let me know how I can help
That is what the AM at Auto Zone told me also.....just not too sure about their experience, data base. We looked at a photo online and that is what it looked like. I will be installing this tomorrow afternoon and look forward to accepting your answer. I feel more confident now as I did not want to damage anything else by installing this part incorrectly.Thank youMike
That is the configuration to wire this directly, let me know if you have further questions
Thanks
