Mitsubishi Repair Problems? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
sounds like the pump is going out
could also have excessive clearance in the engine bearings
i would recommend checking oil pressure with a mechanical gauge and be sure it is oil pressure related and not electrical
from what you describe sounds like the pump
here is specs to measure pressure
crankshaft main bearing clearance should be 0.02 - 0.03 mm
What is involved in replacing the pump? Can I drop the oil pan to get to it?
Or is this one of those pumps thats driven off crank and have to pull front of motor off to get to it? Its a 4G94 engine acording to the owners manual.
driven off of crank
also make sure oil pan is not bent
Have any idea what somehing line this costs to have repaired?
if pan is bent any can cause screen to be resticted
Ballpark or # XXXXX hours to fix.
pays 5.5 hours labor to replace
list on pump shows $251
so roughly about $800 total
So we are probably looking at 500-600 labor plus parts
the shop i use is about 6 miles from house.
with the oil light on, would it be safe to drive or should i have it towed
if light is on do not drive
not worth chance of burning engine up
