2000 mitsubishi eclipse: serpentine belt..slack..diagram..tension

Resolved Question:

serpentine belt on 2000 mitsubishi eclipse has about 4 inches of slack when I replaced it and I have no idea why. I followed the routing diagram perfectly and i've tried with the old belt and the new one. obviously the belt doesnt turn as it doesnt have any tension... any ideas?

Sounds like the spring loaded tensioner is stuck try moving it with a pry bar. If that's the case will need to replace the tensioner.

does anything need to be loosened first? or can I just start trying to pry it?

Expert:  Cardoctor74 replied 5 years ago.
No it's spring loaded see if it moves with the pry bar and the slack comes out of the belt.

awesome, yea I think thats gonna do it, I just tried it now and it kinda popped out of place and seems to be moving freely with pressure now. it already looks like it picked up some of the slack. thanks!!!
