What would be the consequences of finishing Navy ocs then not takings your commission and dropping I entered as a civilian. would it effect me if I wanted to try and get in another branch?
Optional Information: State/Country relating to question: Tennessee Already Tried: Nothing
Thanks for the chance to help. I am an attorney with over 12 years military law experience. It would. If you drop out, and want to apply for another branch's OCS, you will likely need to get a waiver. And they are tough to obtain now. In this slow economy jobs are tough to find...and it is tough to get into the military.Perhaps not impossible...really it will depend on the reason for your leaving the program. But it would not be easy.
What kind of discharge would it be and the fact I finished ocs just didn't take commission would I be considered prior military? Would I have any other options prior to taking commission I think I am considered enlisted in naval reserve now during ocs
It would most likely be an ELS or "entry level separation"I doubt it would have any characterizationYou can ask them to allow you to convert your enlistment into active duty if your goal is to go on active duty. They are not required to grant the request...but they may.
What do you mean by characterizations?
Sorry. Characterization is what is referred to as how they label the discharge. There are several different types availableHere they are best to worst. The last two are only available at court martial1. Honorable 2. General, Under Honorable Conditions3. Other Than Honorable4. Bad Conduct5. DishonorableIf the discharge is within the first 180 days of service, it is common to have no characterization at all.
