I Want to join the Military but I have a criminal history, when I tell the recruiters they say no way. I called a recruiter last week and he said they are no longer accepting waivers. I am 34 and my time is running out, I was 17 when I was convicted. Is their anything that can be done or is it a lost cause?
Optional Information: State/Country relating to question: Kentucky
Hello,Can you tell me what your criminal history is? What was the conviction/s for and misdemeanors or felony?
Felony robbery/burglary when I was 17... D.U.I at 22, misdemeanor for pot at 24.. I know it sounds awful, I am now 34 and married with children, totally different person.
Hello again,Thank you for the information. I understand that people change. However, I have to be painfully honest here. Even when the military was ramping up their personnel and granting waivers in some cases, you would not have received a waiver then either. Now though, because of the drastic drawdown in numbers in the military, recruiting standards have gotten even more strict. Therefore, what the Recruiter told you is true. There really is no way that you could get a waiver. Not even for one misdemeanor, let alone the felony and also the drug charge. I am sorry I don't have better news for you. Please let me know if you have any follow up questions for me.
