Header not printing on excel worksheet ...MacBook

Hi there and welcome

Is this happening on all files or just one in particular?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
All files

can you attach one of the problem files here please?

And which version of excel is this?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I don't have any files yet I was trying to create a spreadsheet and put a header in for a title and noticed when I printed it was a blank page

try to print this file please, what do you see printed?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is this an excel file for mac?

yes

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok yours seems to be working

ok, the issue is then how you add a header

Try to add one how you think it should be done and attach it here and I can see what's going wrong

Customer: replied 3 months ago.

ok, that is correct, if you print the file you uploaded here, it comes out blank?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.

ok, edit the file I gave you then print it, do you then see the header?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
edit it how..change header?

you click on my Header, change the text and then click off it (into a cell)

Then try to print it please

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Richard, i am sorry but i had to leave this due to work...is it possible i could get back on it?

yes it is ok, were you able to do the last instructions I gave?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.

download my file from the link below

http://f01.justanswer.com.s3.amazonaws.com/RichieMe/28b893fa-f729-4070-a59e-cbb5ea4cce12_Book1.xlsx

Then alter the header and try to print please

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok it works

but if you now make a new file and do it it wont work?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
how do you add your header to a new workbook

you click Insert, Header & Footer.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok mine is excel 2016 for mac

yes, it is still the same

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok, i dont see that under insert but under view..is this correct

it will be under insert... but if you see it under view then choose that

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok i clicked it, typed in header test 1, and clicked off and it will not print
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok i guess i can keep trying, dont understand, it seems like it should be very simple

If it works on mine and not yours then there will be something being done wrong in the procedure.

As we also did all this before and to avoid doing all this again, I am making a additional service request.

If you accept it I can then connect to your computer and do this for you.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2893418richard see if you think this could pertain to my problem, i cannot print gridlines either

This is something completely different to headers and is not related

Remember, MY one prints

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok so you dont think the gridlines not printing and the header not printing as well, even though the boxes are checked to print are related?

The header is printing as it prints from my sheet.

Grids do not print, that check box is just to show them

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok the "print gridlines" box is just to show them?

you referring to viewing the gridlines or printing them?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Printing them

I am out of ideas, I am going to opt out for another expert

You do not need to do anything you will be notified when another expert takes over

thanks

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Richard when i added a number to a cell the header then printed along with the number in the cell..

Jess i am trying to create a worksheet for the monthly purchases for my business, could you help?

Hi Chris, thank you for writing back. Yes, I can surely help you with this Excel request. Your question was about difficulty printing your header. I downloaded the sample file you sent and see the problem. Is that the actual file that you are actually using there on your Mac?

Or can you please tell me what exactly the help that you want from me in your Excel file?

Regards,

Jess

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
that is the file, i have the header printing fixed now, but wanted help with creating the spreadsheet or should i open a new question...

Thank you for writing back. If that is the actual file, I have checked and I believe the cause of the problem is the lack of actual data in the "print area". The print area is the area inside the margin you set and when there is nothing on it, then it will be a blank document since headers and footers are not printable in a blank page.

If you are working on that same file, we can continue here. But if you are referring to another Excel file or problem, I suggest that you request me in another question so that we can continue there in your other question.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Jess

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
i think you are right, when i put data in it printed

Yes, that is correct and that is the only reason why the header did not print when you tried printing it while there is no data on the print area.

The header and footer are considered elements on the margin so they only print when there is data in the actual print area.

I hope that helped. Please remember to rate my answer positively (3-5 stars/smileys) if this helped.

If your other Excel concern is a different question, you can post a new question.

Best regards,

Jess
