I tried to open one of my school files in excel and I get a message the converter failed to save the file
JA: What's the make and model of your computer? And what version of Excel are you using?
Customer: I have a hp touchsmart and I am running excel 2016
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: This didn't start happening until I deleted Microsoft office 2010
JA: Anything else you want the Microsoft Office expert to know before I connect you?

how exactly are you opening the file and what type of file is it.

Do you open excel, and then goto file and open. Or are you trying to open the file from windows explorer

I am doing math home work in Pearson and it give me the option to open in excel but when I do I get the converter failed to save the file!

not sure what pearson is. but if you have the option to save the file instead you may want to try that>
