Hi. My name is***** you for your question and the opportunity to assist.

Right-click on the start button and select Programs and Features at the top.

Once the page opens, scroll through the list and tell me if you see a listing for Microsoft Office?

Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

Right-click on the start button and select Run.

In the Run box type: winword.exe and click OK.

Doing that should open Word.

It did not work

Did you see Microsoft Office listed in Programs and Features?

no

Thank you. Do you have the Office 2010 installation disk or the 25 character product key?

Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

You can try a system restore to see if that brings it back. Right-click the start button and

select Run again.

In the run box type: rstrui.exe and click OK.

When System Restore opens click Next.

Put a checkmark in the Show more restore points box.

Look at the list of restore dates and select a date when Office was there and click Next.

Click Finish and proceed with the restore.

I have it. It was only good for three installs and I have passed the max. I thought about reinstalling it but if it has expired that won't work and if I reinstall it will it recover my files. and if that works what will keep windows 10 from uninstalling it again?
Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

Click in the search box and type: *.docx

Windows will search for any Word documents on the computer.

Do the same with *.xlsx and it will search for Excel spreadsheets.

Does it find anything?

Re-installing office won't recover files but a search may find them if they're still there.

If you've got a three-PC license you shouldn't have a problem re-installing it on the same computer.

I am working on the restore now.
Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

Can you tell me what happened on the laptop before this? Windows 10 won't arbitrarily uninstall Office.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
My wife uses this laptop and about 6 weeks ago it automatically updated to windows 10. Ok, we thought we could survive that and then she went to do some work from home with is earlier this week and Office was gone.

Still restoring
Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

If this happened 6 weeks ago I don't know that system restore will have any effect on this.

After the upgrade to Windows 10 all your files should still be there.

When the restore is done, right-click on the start button and open File Explorer.

Double-click your C: drive to open it.

Double-click the Users folder to open it.

You'll see the user accounts listed.

Open your account or your wife's and look in the Documents folder

for Office documents.

In File Explorer

look for Office applications in the location below and try to open it and check if it helps:

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\

or

c:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\

Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

Did you find the Office14 folder in either of those locations?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
still restoring
Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

Ok.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
the restore did not work
Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

Does the Office14 folder exist in either of these locations:

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\

or

c:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\

Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

If those folders are there look for excel.exe, outlook.exe and winword.exe

as those are the executables that open the programs.

Expert:  Byron replied 3 months ago.

If those folders don't exit, re-install Office.
