This answer was rated:

my access 2007 database is not working for my fields that have combo boxes. I understand why it is happening I just do not have a clue how to fix it. In my table the key id is stored so when I try to filter or use the data in a report the key id is returned and not the field value. Can you direct me on the steps i need to do so that for instance if I want to filter on a field the value is returned.

The-PC-Guy :

The-PC-Guy :

Can you send a copy of the database to me so I can fix it for you?

The-PC-Guy :

upload to

The-PC-Guy :

www.wikisend.com

The-PC-Guy :

after uploading they give you FILE ID#

The-PC-Guy :

paste that here

Customer:

file id - 392620

The-PC-Guy :

ok

The-PC-Guy :

give me a minute to download

Customer:

ok

The-PC-Guy :

your using a sharepoint?

Customer:

oh yes sorry i forgot to mention that

The-PC-Guy :

well thats not relevant, I just wont be a ble to test anything against the data

The-PC-Guy :

ok

The-PC-Guy :

anyway

The-PC-Guy :

for your form

The-PC-Guy :

which drop down box is the problem

Customer:

all of them except the drop down for unit name.

Customer:

that is the only one that i can filter on and for some reason it actually populates the unit name in the table in lieu of the key id

The-PC-Guy :

there is a very specfic way you have to do combo boxes

The-PC-Guy :

when you say filter and poplulate

The-PC-Guy :

you are talking about the options in each box that show up

Customer:

yes

The-PC-Guy :

well right away I see what your problem is

The-PC-Guy :

and you can actually correct this yourself

The-PC-Guy :

open the form in design view

Customer:

ok hold on

Customer:

ok ready

The-PC-Guy :

select one of the drop down boxes

The-PC-Guy :

land title for example

The-PC-Guy :

in the property sheet

The-PC-Guy :

click the data tab

Customer:

ok

The-PC-Guy :

under there is an option for

The-PC-Guy :

bound column

The-PC-Guy :

change that from a 1 to a 2

The-PC-Guy :

or whatever column number in your query the data you want displayed is

The-PC-Guy :

so if you have something like

The-PC-Guy :

select id,name,phone

The-PC-Guy :

in your data source

The-PC-Guy :

1

Customer:

when i do that, the dropdown options displayed is the key id

The-PC-Guy :

would give you id

The-PC-Guy :

2 would give you

The-PC-Guy :

name

The-PC-Guy :

3 would give you

The-PC-Guy :

phone

The-PC-Guy :

ok

The-PC-Guy :

after you save the change

The-PC-Guy :

save the form

The-PC-Guy :

then you have to open it

The-PC-Guy :

and the correct data should show up

The-PC-Guy :

assuming your query is correct

Customer:

when i look at the form in form view my combo dropdown display the number

The-PC-Guy :

yes you are selecting 2 columns on that one

The-PC-Guy :

does the land tile column?

The-PC-Guy :

have numbers in it?

Customer:

no the dropdown values are not approved/ approved

The-PC-Guy :

i would need to see what is in the table

The-PC-Guy :

as your query may be wrong

The-PC-Guy :

ok, we may have to do this a different way

Customer:

k

The-PC-Guy :

can i remote into your computer

The-PC-Guy :

Customer:
