This answer was rated:

I have Microsoft office 2010. all the office icons work fine except outlook. If i try to open outlook it asks for my product key . I enter it it confirms the key and configures the file but when I try to open the outlook file it again asks for my pin key.How can all the office files work but not outlook? I am using vista on a dell computer.
Thank you for your question, my name is Richard.

Exactly which version of Office do you have?

Office Home and Student 2010

Office Professional 2010

Office Standard 2010?

Thank you

office home and student

Thanks Morris.

Outlook does not come with Office Home and Student.

It only comes with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote,

So the Outlook you have will be a pre-installed trial on the computer.

this is why it keeps asking for the Product Key.

You can either keep entering the Key as you are doing now, if it is allowing you to use it (it will have limited functionality).

Else you would need t purchase Outlook which you can do via the below link.

Click Me To View

Or you can you Windows Mail, which is a more basic version of Outlook and is free from Microsoft here

Click Me To View

But it is a trial version you have, as Outlook does not come with the home and student version of Outlook.

If you would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The reason I ask is I opened a hotmail account. In order to read the emails I have been opening outlook on the web and I can see my mail. I would like to put an icon on my desktop to go directly to my hotmail account. How can I do this.Hotmail is free I shouldn't have to but outlook.

That is correct, for Hotmail, you do not need outlook.

To make the icon, right click on a blank space on your desktop and choose New, Shortcut.

Enter in as the location

Click next, and name the shortcut.

You can then use this shortcut to go straight to Hotmail

Let me know if you have any difficulties please

O.K. one last question the icon on my desktop for hotmail is aol. How can I change it to hotmail icon or even outlook icon.

You cannot as there is no icon available, it uses AOL as this is your Browser.

But you can choose other icons for it.

Right click it, choose properties then click Change icon.
