How do I open a Powerpoint file made 1997. I do not know what

How do I open a Powerpoint file made 1997. I do not know what version of Office I used at that time. At present I have Office 2007 and cannot open this file
Thank you for your question, my name is Richard.

Later versions of software can always open earlier versions.

But you need either Powerpoint installed (it is not a standard part of Office) or a Powerpoint viewer which is free (though you cannot edit the presentation).

You can download and install the viewer on my link below which will at least allow you to view the power point presentation

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6

else you need to install a full version of powerpoint if you wish to edit it.

If you would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I do have Power Point installed version 2007- so that is not the problem .With this version I can open and edit all Power Point files even thos made ín 1998

ok, so what is then the issue you are having?

If you have powerpoint installed, and you know how to open powerpoint files, then what is it you wish to know?

The problem is that I cannot open a Powerpoint file frpm 1997 and when trying the answer is that my flie is not a power piont file although it was certainly produced using a Power Point program available in my computer at that time which means that later versions cannot always be opnend! The file in question has the name xxx.ptt

Why? and what to do

ok, it may be corrupted.

I can check this. Can I look at the file?

- Click the following link: http://www.wikisend.com
- Upload the file to that website
- Once it is uploaded, the resulting page will display a "File ID" number.
- Please, give me that "File ID Number"

Thank you

Do you have any suggestions on how to repair such files as I still have 3-4 files with similar problems-

Ulf

If you make a new question here

http://www.justanswer.com/computer/expert-richieme/

I can go through and try to repair.

It is not so much a process, but a set of tools and experience that I use to do this.
