HOW DO I STOP ONE OPEN FILE (AMONG 4 OTHER OPEN FILES) FROM BLINKING TO A WHITE SCREEN? THE HOURGLASS STAYS ON THE FILE, SO I CAN'T EVEN CLOSE IT. IT'S A MANUSCRIPT I'M COPYEDITING FOR A CLIENT. BY THE WAY, I AM 76 YEARS OLD AND EDIT OR GHOSTWRITE BOOKS AND ARTICLES FOR CLIENTS EVERY DAY. BUT . . . I DON'T UNDERSTAND TECH LINGO VERY WELL, SO I'D APPRECIATE A SIMPLE ANSWER. THANKS.
My name is James
Welcome to Just Answer
what kind of File is a word file , .doc .docx?
.doc a 2003 version of MSWord, my favorite for editing.
Perfect good info
Lets try and close the file and Re open it see if that solves the issue
I know you said you cant close the normal way so we use a different way
Press CTRL and ALT and ESC at the same time the task manager Window will open
Under applications look down the list you will see the word docs you have open
Highlight the problem file , Click End task it should close
Then Re-open if you need to and test
Standing by Please let me know
I closed all the .doc files I had open at the time, then reopened the blinking one. I saw on the bottom of the screen that all the pages were 'opening' . . but the file still blinks to a white screen and then back and forth. The cursor never blinks so that I can take the next action.
dumb old me! I use Carbonite to back up my hard drive continuously. If I contact them and have that particular file replaced by the one in early March, will that solve the problem? Otherwise, you're welcome to "remote on," if that means checkout out my PC from where you are. :-)
It may well do , but we can do that ourselves ,
Lets have a look
