Hi Dan
It is gettinjg late for me as well so how about I ask you the orther question tomorrow in the morning - my time in Brisbane Australia, say around 9am my time

Dr. Dan :

Sounds good 5:30 Pm your time right?

Dr. Dan :

It's 2:30 am my time

Dr. Dan :

So 9 am your time would be 6 pm my time right?

Dr. Dan :

Regardless, ask your question here I will be on the lookout for it tomorrow :D

Dr. Dan :

Sounds right, we are -15 hours apart :)

Dr. Dan :

Have a good evening I will visit with you tomorrow (morning)/(evening)

Customer:

Yes thats right ....The question I need to ask is very convoluted....eg if, then and etc., so will take me some time to put it together so please wait til tomorrow as my wife is pressuring me to go home

Customer:

Hi Dan I hope you had a nice evening. Here is my next question

Customer:

If either Cells B36, B37 and B38 = ‘Y’ then the amount in their corresponding Cells D36, D37 and D38 are added to the amount already in Cell S82. Cell S82 already has had a similar function performed as another if Y scenario in another table, and the existing code in Cell S82 is below

=IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,"")))))))

Basically, I now need another if Y function to occur in an additional set of cells – B36, B37, and B38 – which, if they are selected will add the additional amounts from either cells D36, D37, and/or D38 to the amount already in Cell S82. If these additional cells are not selected then Cell S82 will only keep the original data from the existing table and coding above.

Dr. Dan :

Hi there John good morning

Dr. Dan :

Let me review our next request

Customer:

Thanks

Dr. Dan :

John try this for S82:

Dr. Dan :

=IF(B36="Y",D36+(IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,"")))))))),IF (B37="Y",D37+IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,""))))))),IF(B38=Y,D38+IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,""))))))),IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,""))))))))))

Dr. Dan :

Here's a link to that in a spreadsheet: http://ge.tt/4BPS1vj/v/0?c

Dr. Dan :

I hope I had my commas and parentheses correct

Dr. Dan :

if correct with data it should produce the requested results

Dr. Dan :

Let me know when you have a chance to test that out

Customer:

Hi Dan ... I tried a copy and paste from above but it came back with an error

Dr. Dan :

How about the link

Dr. Dan :

to the example document:

Customer:

Yes I trried that as well and no luck

Dr. Dan :

Ok, let me look at the function again

Dr. Dan :

Logic should be: =IF(B36="Y",D36+[],IF(B37="Y",D37+[],IF(B38="Y",D38+[],[])))

Dr. Dan :

with [] denoting the existing function

Dr. Dan :

So it should be:

Dr. Dan :

=IF(B36="Y",D36+(IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,"")))))))),IF(B37="Y",D37+(IF(B29="Y",H29, IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,"")))))))),IF(B38="Y",D38+(IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,"")))))))),(IF(B29="Y",H29,IF(B30="Y",H30,IF(B31="Y",H31,IF(B32="Y",H32,IF(B33="Y",H33,IF(B34="Y",H34,IF(B35="Y",D35,"")))))))))))

Dr. Dan :

In S82

Dr. Dan :

http://ge.tt/6QzYOvj/v/0?c Link to a file with it updated

Customer:

Hi Dan...that works good....but what about if i accidentally check Ys in 2 boxes shouldn't it show as an error

Dr. Dan :

Hmm that does not have error checking built in

Dr. Dan :

we can add it

Customer:

Yes thanks

Dr. Dan :

=IF(OR(AND(B36="Y",B37="Y"),AND(B36="Y",B38="Y"),AND(B37="Y",B38="Y"),AND(B36="Y",B37="Y",B38="Y")),"ERROR",_____)

Dr. Dan :

That's the error check let me update it

Dr. Dan :

There's the updated file with S82's error checking built into that

Customer:

Yes, all good to go thank you. I will pay you now but will be back in a couple of months for some more work to be done as there is some new funding coming available and I will need to incorporate it in my calculator

Customer:

Thanks again and Take care for now. John
