i downloaded a document in IE 10 and worked on it for 3 days,

i downloaded a document in IE 10 and worked on it for 3 days, pressing the save button regularly. i then closed the document in order to send it via email, but cannot find it now. would it have been auto saved somewhere, if so how can I find it? I have tried searching using the search tool but cannot locate it.

If you downloaded it, but default it will go to the Downloads folder.

Press the Windows Key + E

Then click on your Downloads folder and look for the document there.

Exactly how did you download it Peter? And from where?

Are you sure you did not just open it from within the email?

It was from a site that i use for university. i had to access the site and open the document, it was not from within an email.

when i press CTRL+ESC my monitor starts flickering. And then it randomly pulls up different Apps, like IE, or mail when I type .doc...

This means there is no word documents at all on your computer?

It did not return any files at all. There are word docs on my PC.

ok, Press Windows Key + E

Then go to "View" and then click the Options button > Change folder and search options
Scroll to "Hide extensions for file types is known"
Uncheck it and click OK.

Then search please.

Richard, I have made the changes, but get the same result. It is as though the search function is not working/responding.

correct, this is what appears to be the problem.

Open Word, and you should see your recent documents, can you find it there?

Still no change. I am actually in Singapore where it is just past midnight. I think I am gonna have to go and take the machine to someone tomorrow and see if they can retrieve the doc. It is my wifes latest assignment, 7k words, 40 pages and about a weeks worth of work. She has recently switched from Apple, so I only hope she has saved it at some stage....
