This answer was rated:

i have 2 worksheets

worksheet 1 has a master list of merchant numbers (column a) and city (column e)

eg - 13077, chicago

in the 2nd worksheet I have merchant numbers (column b) and a blank column f

what i want to do is have excel take the merchant # XXXXX column b in the 2nd worksheet - look up that same merchant number in worksheet 1 and get me the city from column e in worksheet 1 and past it into column f in worksheet 2

Jason :

Hello and thank you for your question today. My name isXXXXX look forward to helping you today.

Jason :

You can do this very simply with the VLOOKUP function.

Jason :

You can place the following formula in the 2nd sheet, in F2: =VLOOKUP(B2,Sheet1!A:E,5,FALSE)
Then copy F2 and paste it into the F column (F3 down to the bottom)

Jason :

That formula above is assuming that the first sheet is called Sheet1

Jason :

Hello

Jason :

Does that make sense?

Jason :

I am putting together a test example for you now.

Jason :
