Hello, I have a question about adding a formula in Microsoft

This answer was rated:

Hello,

I have a question about adding a formula in Microsoft Excel. What I am trying to do is this, I have a column with 6 rows. In each row there will be a random number box. I would like the spreadsheet to calculate only four out of the lowest 6 numbers. So the two highest numbers that formula should eliminate those numbers and not factor into the calculation. For example if these were the 6 numbers; -1, -2, 0, 5, -5, 3 the formula should calculate -8 as the answer.

Thanks

The-PC-Guy :

or zero even

Customer:

yes correct

The-PC-Guy :

which collum and rows are the 6 numbers in

Customer:

ok one sec

Customer:

column B11 - B16

The-PC-Guy :

ok

The-PC-Guy :

give me a minute to create the formula

The-PC-Guy :

=SUM(SMALL(B11:B16,1),SMALL(B11:B16,2),SMALL(B11:B16,3),SMALL(B11:B16,4))

The-PC-Guy :

let me know how this works

The-PC-Guy :

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE

Customer:

ok

Customer:

Yes that works. Thank you. It only works when each box has a number in it. If a box is empty the formula does not work.

The-PC-Guy :

sum doesn't work on blanks or letters
