I have two spreadsheets. I need to look up the value of column A in spreadsheet 1 and match it to column A in spreadsheet 2 and retrieve corresponding value to row in spreadsheet 2 column D and bring it to the active cell in spreadsheet 1. What formula do I use. Thanks

Yes most likely a VLOOKUP formula will do it (or an INDEX/MATCH formula depending on the data)

Please send me the file so I can set up the formula on it. To do so go to and upload the file using the Browse button (no need to signup) then copy the "File ID" number (or the download link) that you will be given and paste it here in your reply.

If the file has sensitive information let me know before you upload it

What I want to do is in spreadsheet 1, use a formulae in E35 to E48 to read the names of an employees in Column A35 to A48, then go to speadsheet 2 and match the names and then go in the corresponding row in Column DH and return the number to the corresponding name. Thanks

Thanks. Can you give me the correct names of the two sheets

Check out this screenshot. The formulas are in the yellow cells

If that's what you're looking for I will send you the file with the formulas
