Unlink Remaining Duration from Physical Percent Complete in

Customer Question

Unlink Remaining Duration from Physical Percent Complete in MP 2007.
With task type type of Fixed Duration and with Phyiscal Percent Complete, when we manually change remaining duration, it will take eight times to change remaining duration to the number we want. Then when we status, the duration or remaining duration will change and total sloack changes dmtically. This is very critical since we use P6 and have no problems with the unlink. Please example why MP does not allow us the same calculatiopns as P6.

Hello,

I am Pete, and I'll be happy to assist with your question today.

MP is a completely different software package from P6, made by a different software company with different objectives in mind, therefore you will be unable to unlink Remaining Duration from Physical Percent Complete in MP 2007. Although both software packages are for project planning, they do have some unique differences.
You will need to decide which package is best suited for your needs.

Sorry, I could not get the "reply to expert" tab to work so I had to have someone at Just Answer type it for me.

Here is the questions. When you say "different objectives in mind" what do you mean? Then when you state "unable to unlink Remaining Duration from Physical Percent Complete in MP 2007" What in MP 2007 prevents this from happening?

Hi James,
What I mean is that the two project software packages are not identical, they have been designed differently by different companies to do different things, and one of those differences is that MP2007 was not designed to allow you to unlink Remaining Duration from Physical Percent Complete, so that is what prevents it from happening.
If you need to perform this then P6 would be better suited to your needs than MP2007.

Ok I understand that MP and Primavera/Oracle are two different compnaies and design differently. Since the specifciations we are working with require remaining durations and physical percent complete to be unlinked, does that mean that either MP2007 or MP2010 cannot do this? Is there any override in Options to change this?

I just need to be absolutely sure that when I go to my supervisor to say we have to use Primavera instead of MP, I have done through research on this.

Again, thanks for you help with this.

Hi James,

You are correct - MP will not allow you to unlink remaining durations and physical percent complete.
There are no override functions available to get around this problem.

Pete.
